The “ Never Ending Story” two-disc set (1996) is a sort of “Best Of” collection of songs (split up into a mostly-up-tempo first disc, and a mostly-down-tempo second disc). The music from these CDs have been collected many times over the years, either in part or in (nearly) whole: Almost all of them are sung by the regular artists and are fun listens meant to flesh out and pad the albums. Some songs will be right from the series, but most of them are songs that were recorded specifically for these CDs and never had anything directly to do with the show. Think of the “Hit Song Collection” CDs and their image songs like this. Perhaps you have seen CDs saying something along the lines of “Music From and Inspired by the Motion Picture”. What is an image song? It sounds confusing at first, but once you realize the marketing machine that the franchise truly is, it begins to make more sense. The “Hit Song Collection” CDs are comprised of opening and ending themes to the TV series, movie ending themes, TV episode insert songs, and (mostly) what are referred to as “image songs”. There are 20 of them in total, including two remix CDs. The Dragon Ball Z “ Hit Song Collection” CDs are an odd breed.
